Branson got its name after the initial settler Reuben Branson, the postmaster and the owner of general store in 1800. The place stayed in isolation for many days, but a turning point in the history of Branson, quickly turned it into a popular city.

The Osage Indian Tribe, considered to be the natives of Branson MO, called the six miles cave outside the city limits, as Devil’s Den. In 1869 the name was changed to The Marble Cave, as their was a strong myth about the cave having walls of marble. Later in 1893, the cave was bought by William Henry Lynch, who called it the Marvel Cave and it soon became a popular tourist attraction located right in the heart of the famous Dollar City. The next big thing that literally gave an overnight popularity to this place, was in the form of compiled efforts of Harold Bell Wright, who through his bestselling book about Ozarks, ‘ Shepherd Of The Hills Country’, helped in the widespread popularity of this place in all four corners of United States.
